In this special showcase, we present four exciting new ethnographic documentaries. In Lucas Bonetti's Fishermen Without a Sea, the viewer observes Rio de Janeiro’s fishermen and environmentalists as they try to maintain their way of life in the face of severe environmental degradation. Neta Alexander's Grounded takes us to a place where adults relive their summer-camp experiences and rediscover their identity without cell phones. In Matthew Cusimano's The Love Industry, a ghostwriter of online dating profiles and a wedding videographer reflect on romance in the digital age. In Angelo Baca's Shásh Jaa': Bears Ears, five Native American nations fight for their homeland to be designated a national monument.

The screenings will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers and Dr. Faye Ginsburg, director of the New York University Program in Culture & Media and documentary professor, Dr. Pegi Vail.

Co-presented by the New York University Center for Media, Culture, and History
